2008 Suzuki XL7 Ltd. The Suzuki XL7 crossover is available with AWD in all 3 of its trim levels; Premium, Luxury and Limited. XL7 can be purchased as either a 5 or 7 passenger vehicle, and is powered by an aluminum V6 based on a GM design and is mated to 6 speed automatic transmission. That makes sense considering the fact that it is based on GM's Theta platform. It sits on the Equinox/Torrent 112.4 inch wheelbase and weighs in just shy of 4100 lbs. It is now really either an XL7/5 (5 passenger XL7) or an XL7/7 (7 passenger). This high end Limited version tops the charts at $29,680, about twice the price of a SX4 CUV. The XL7/5 Premium is the entry level AWD XL7, and it starts at $27,245; a huge jump from 2008.

2009 Toyota Venza Initially marketed as a CUV, current economic conditions have caused the Toyota maketing gurus to label the Toyota Venza a "crossover sedan". That's right, Toyota has decided to create a whole new automotive niche rather than call Venza any kind of a "utility vehicle". That's a shame. It is a very sharp looking product, tainted by the foolhardy suits at Toyota who never got grease under their fingernails. If that was their intention, why did they raise the profile some 4 or 5 inches? Drop it back down and call it a sportwagon, and I'm fine with that. Have a LITTLE integrity...You can get an AWD Venza with a 4 or a 6. The 4 cylinder version comes with a 6 speed automatic transmission and starts st $27,425

2007 Ford EdgeThe 2009 Ford Edge is doing well. The only notable change for 09 is the addition of a Sport version with 22 inch wheels and tires in addition to the SE, SEL and Limited versions. All are powered by the aluminum 3.5 Liter V6 w/6 speed automatic. But you can't get AWD on the SE for 09; you need to upgrade to SEL. Essentially unchanged since its late introduction. Electronically controlled AWD is optional on all 3 trim levels; GLS, SE and Limited. Like the 4wd system in Tucson, there is also a driver selectable switch to lock what is referred to as a multi-plate clutch for defeating the electronics and staying in 50/50 AWD mode. (To me, that just sounds like Hyundai reverse-engineered the BW system, but I have no way of knowing...) It's 4,431 lbs. sits on a110.4 inch wheelbase. Veracruz is the only Hyundai with a 3rd row seat, and it is standard equipment, allowing up to 7 passengers. Prices for the base Veracruz GLS with AWD start at $28,745
